return to Reykjavik3
Packed snow covered road at 5am. (That’s if you can see the road!)

To celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary we decided to have a two day break in Iceland as an adventure. It certainly was! We were told the weather was the worst in the history of Icelandair. The airport and even major roads were closed, wind speeds reached force 15, and hundreds of cars were buried in snow. The pictures below show :-The coach returning over a snow covered road to Reykjavik: The intrepid explorers near Faxi Foss and the frozen Gull Foss falls

Some other facts:
On this weekend 1200 air passengers were diverted from Keflavik airport to Glasgow, 500 people slept in Keflavik airport, the party we should have gone with from Portsmouth did not leave England, 70 people slept at the Blue Lagoon, our coach party slept in a café at Grindavik, we swam in the Blue Lagoon in a blizzard, one coach was blown off the road..

Gullfoss4
Our arctic hero at GULLFOSS Waterfalls (well ‘frozenfalls’) a
beautiful ‘cathedral gallery’ of icicles mixed with flowing water.
